Most recent update

Hello everyone, it's your favorite (maybe) married couple updating you on our most recent adventures. I (Mike) will be doing the honor this time due to a situation that has recently developed and will be explained later. As for what's up with me right now, I've taken over the job of holding down the fort while waiting for classes to start. I've done the laundry, washed dishes, set dinner out, even taken Tina to the vet by myself, and in this I've discovered that any man who thinks staying at home is a piece of cake is seriously mistaken. There is always stuff to do and it usually takes serious time. Granted, it's not horribly difficult, but it's time consuming nonetheless. I have enjoyed the downtime though, so I really can't complain.

As for Molly, God blessed her with her first real teaching opportunity. She will be an elementary music teach at Zion Lutheran Christian School as well as the elementary Spanish teacher. We're both really excited for this because it is certainly a great school and a great chance for Molly to get experience in the school system without having to adjust to the public school system( Zion is private). She's been at school all week going to meetings and preparing her room for the students, which start next Thursday. It's been exciting and I know she's going to do great as a teacher.

As for my job hunt, the lab position I interviewed for didn't pan out but I didn't panic because as a good friend of ours said, when God closes one door He opens another one. Literally the day after I found out about not getting the position, I applied for a job with TakeLessons.com and got an email from them the next day. They wanted to see if I was interested in working as an instructor in their studios at local Best Buys. This is how it would work; I would be hired by this company, but all my students would meet me at the Best Buy and we would have their lesson in their fully furnished studio. I would also be present in the music studio when I didn't have lessons, acting as a sort of "percussion expert" to help advise on kit purchases and promote Take Lessons. It is truly a perfect position for me and I pray that this is where God leads me.

So that's about it in the job hunt right now. In other news, Molly and I have officially joined a small local church out here and we're both looking to get involved as soon as possible. The church has been very anxious to have us join and we've made many great friends there.

That's about all I have to report on us right now. My family is coming to town this weekend and I'm sure there will be some great stories and pictures that come from this. Be looking for a post sometime next week. God bless!

Adjusting to Married Life: Shared TV Shows

So one thing I've always thought interesting is how married couples interact when it comes to shared spaced, like the bedroom, bathroom, living room, etc. In all of these areas, one side clearly dominates over the other, the women usually take up the bathroom with make-up and facial scrubs, while the men will stake claim to the living room, especially the TV. It can never be too big and the sound can never surround us enough, that's the motto most men live by. But one aspect of the living room, and more importantly the TV is the shows that are watched. As I've seen many of my friends get married, I've seen a sudden growth in the amount of statuses that read "getting ready to watch TV with my wife" or "so and so is watching TV with his wife".
I laughed at this at first, thinking that there was no way Molly and I would end up watching the same shows, we just had too many differences in taste. But sure enough, when the time came, we found ourselves settling on shows we both enjoyed, albeit for different reasons(sometimes).
So this is the subject of this post, to shine light on the shows Molly and I watch together for those of you who read this blog.

Sunday: Scoundrels on ABC
This show was kind of an accidental discovery. Molly and I were watching Extreme Home makeover and the advertisements just kept popping up. It worked really well actually. It's sort of a comedy drama. It's about a family of criminals that decides to straighten up after the father goes to prison. It seems like it wouldn't be very good but the cast is very strong, specifically the female lead. Definitely a show worth checking out.

Monday: Lie to Me
Very good criminal show. I think it beats any of the CSI shows or Law and Order's because the leading actor is so talented. I don't know his name, but he's the actor that played in the Hulk(Ed Norton version) as Abomination. He's just snarky enough to make it interesting, but he's still a good guy. Definitely a great show and the funny thing is that it was actually Molly's discovery.

The Good Guys
A buddy cop show. Based in the Dallas area. Comedy gold. Great discovery.

Tuesday: Wipeout
Do I need to really elaborate on why this is epic? I think not.

Downfall
A bonus after watching Wipeout. Chris Jericho is a great host because of his personality(but I already knew that) and the concept of the show is genius.

Thursday: Glee
Okay, this is the one show that Molly and I don't completely agree on, but I tolerate it because it's not horrible. I enjoy the music (somewhat) and I'll tolerate the drama even though it reminds me too much of high school.

Rookie Blue
Our third cop show that we watch throughout the week. The concept of following a series of rookie cops throughout the trials and troubles is great because you get a lot of good drama and a whole lot of good criminal justice too.

Well, that just about summarizes our week of TV watching. It's been a lot of fun adjusting to the idea of watching shows we both like and I like having someone to talk to about the show as it's going.

Well, that's all for now. I'm sure Molly is going to re-take control for the next post, but until then, later!

Wedding Bliss to Florida Sunshine

First of all, we want to thank anyone who came to our wedding. It was truly a very happy time for us and we thank ya'll for sharing in that day. We have created this blog as a way for all of you guys to keep up with us in South Florida. Hopefully, we will remember to post quite often. :-)

Since the wedding....
We went on a cruise to the Bahamas for our honeymoon. It was a great time for us to relax together and "get away" for awhile. We snorkeled, went to a waterpark at the Atlantis resort, and enjoyed parasailing (which is something Molly has always wanted to do - she loved it). We are so thankful to have been able to go on such a trip!

After the cruise, we traveled to Shreveport, LA to watch Molly's brother, Chip, commission as an officer in the Marine Corps. There were complications with getting us to the ceremony on time, but everything worked out and we were truly glad to be there for this very special event. We are both so proud of Chip!

The next evening, we left Molly's parents' home with both vehicles packed to the brim and our puppy, Tina, to head to Texarkana to gather up more of Mike's stuff from his grandparents'. We stayed with them that night and started the long drive to FL the next morning. It was indeed a LONG drive! We made it to Tallahassee about midnight the first night and spent the night. The next day we drove the rest of the way and signed the lease on our apartment! YAY!! We love the apartment and now finally have our furniture. :-) The unpacking process is going to be just that....a process and a very long one. But, the task is underway! By the end of the summer this place should feel more like home. Here is a picture of our first meal in our apartment. :-) Sorry, no pic of the apartment yet...camera problems. More coming soon.

Last week we got to spend several days in California with the Kizzar family, as they had an after-wedding reception for us. That was alot of fun! We enjoyed visiting with family and friends out there. We were kept busy! :-)

We both feel so blessed and are excited to see what God's going to do next. We are trusting His guidance as Mike begins work at a music camp next week for the summer and then begins grad school in August and as Molly will spend the summer getting the apartment setup and looking for a music teaching job around the area. Prayers would be greatly appreciated! As soon as we get the apartment set and not messy, we will welcome any of you for a visit anytime! Fort Lauderdale is beautiful!!! :-)
